Heaven to me is a place on earth.
It is a dinner table worn by time and stories.
A table that has held every version of the people I love. The laughter that filled the room. The conversations that lasted longer than they were supposed to. The moments we didn’t realize would become memories we’d someday miss.
It is one of my most prized possessions. Not because of what it is, but because of everything it holds.
Heaven to me is my gran’s garden.
It is the feeling of slowing down. Dirt beneath my fingernails. The quiet understanding between two people who don’t always need words to know what the other is saying.
It is being loved by someone who has known me through every season and somehow still sees the best parts of me.
Heaven to me is the people who find their way into my life when I least expect it.
The ones who come from different places, different stories, different walks of life, and somehow arrive at exactly the right time. The ones who remind me that every person carries a universe inside of them, and there is so much beauty in getting to know someone else’s.
Heaven to me is knowing I don’t have to wait until I’m gone to understand how good this life can be.
Because maybe heaven was never meant to be somewhere far away.
Maybe it was always hidden here.
My life has not been untouched by heartbreak.
There have been seasons that asked more of me than I knew how to give. Moments that changed me. People I had to learn how to love from a distance. Versions of myself I had to let go of.
But even then… I have never lived a life without wonder.
I have never been without a place to return to. A hand to hold. A person to call. A memory that reminds me how lucky I am to have been here at all.
Maybe that is the quiet miracle of being alive.
Not that we are spared from losing things.
But that we are given so much worth losing in the first place.
That we get to love people so deeply their absence leaves a shape behind.
That we get to experience something so beautiful that even the pain of it proves it mattered.
My life can be challenging to navigate.
I will never pretend otherwise.
But I also know the privilege of the life I get to live. I know I have been given more love, more memories, more moments of joy than I could ever count.
And I will always be one of the lucky ones.
Maybe heaven is not something we find at the end of our lives.
Maybe heaven is something we learn to recognize while we are here.
A garden.
A dinner table.
A person who changed us.
A moment where the sun hits our face and, for a second, we remember—
this life is a gift.
Maybe heaven has been finding us all along.
Maybe we just have to be present enough to notice.
So much love to you,
Emi Sue !
